Hytale: Amazing News from the Spring 2025 Update

An Update That Gets Us Hyped for More!

Hey, folks! 🎮 Who’s been keeping up with Hytale, the MMORPG that’s shaping up to be a spiritual successor to Minecraft? On March 28, 2025, Hypixel Studios dropped a fresh update on their official website, titled "Spring 2025 Development Update." They shared progress from the first months of 2025, plans for internal playtests throughout the year, and finally revealed a new character teased back in late 2023. Let’s dive into everything this update has in store!

Engine Progress: A More Beautiful and Fluid World

The rendering team at Hypixel Studios has been working hard to bring back—and even improve—atmospheric features from the old engine. They showcased a test scene transitioning from night to day, highlighting several upgrades:

  • Revamped Trees: Branches are back, with more detail!
  • Shadowmaps: More realistic lighting and shadows.
  • Skybox: A more dynamic and stunning sky.

They also explored the same scene—and the surrounding area—in Creative Mode, showing off early flying animations (still in development), a smooth landing, and a peek inside a cave. These engine improvements are paving the way for more robust gameplay systems.

Internal Playtests in 2025: Testing the Core of the Game

After years of prototyping during the engine’s redevelopment, 2025 marks a major milestone: core gameplay systems are finally being integrated for internal playtests. Hypixel Studios started with the basics:

  • Fundamentals: Movement, block placement, combat, and crafting.
  • Revamped Inventory: A fresh approach to inventory and hotbars.

Creative Mode Playtests

For creators, playtests will focus on configuring custom worlds by tweaking parameters that define the content players will experience, whether as creators or adventurers. New features include:

  • Block selection, copy/paste, and undo/redo.
  • Plans to include logic blocks and physics-affected blocks by year-end, when the first external creator teams might get to test them.

Adventure Mode in Orbis

In Adventure Mode, set in the world of Orbis, the team is working on:

  • Life Skills: Cooking and smithing.
  • New Points of Interest and Encounters: More dynamic POIs and interactions.

They’ve also introduced Regions, replacing the old "Zones" system. Regions are smaller but more numerous, each with 3 to 5 biomes tied together by a cohesive theme, gameplay, and narrative. The first Region, Central Grasslands, is the reimagined heart of old Zone 1, featuring:

  • Open prairies, sparse forests, and rocky outcrops.
  • Abundant resources, perfect for beginners.
  • Trorks, Orbis’ deadliest monster-hunters, roaming the area.

More Regions are in development, drawing from old Zones 1, 2, and 3, like the Wild Savannah, Boreal Frontier, and Earthglade’s deep forests, where Trorks face off against an ancient foe.

A New Stage for Kweebecs: Meet the Mature Kweebecs!

Back in Winter 2023, Hypixel Studios showed off the revamped Kweebecs with the Treesinger, but now they’ve revealed a new stage in their lifecycle—and it’s adorable! Here’s how it works:

Seedlings: Kweebecs start as tiny seeds dropping from Elders at the heart of their villages. They’re full of energy and often get into trouble!

Young Kweebecs: The ones we already know—adventurous treefolk exploring Orbis to learn new skills.

Mature Kweebecs: When they return to their villages, they grow taller and stronger, taking on roles as artisans, cultivators, or even warriors.

These Mature Kweebecs bridge the gap between young adventurers and wise Elders or Treesingers. They protect and mentor younger Kweebecs while sharing their knowledge with player Avatars.

A special group of Mature Kweebecs, called Razorleaves, ventures into Orbis’ most dangerous forests to protect their villages. Fun fact: one of these Razorleaves inspired a tattoo on Executive Producer John’s leg a few years back!

A Note from John: Playtests Are Coming!

Executive Producer John wrapped up the update with an enthusiastic message. He’s thrilled that they’ve passed a major end-of-year milestone ("Blonks") and are now gearing up for playtests. The Creative, Adventure, Combat, and UX teams are all working at full speed, with John saying, “Every month, Hytale gets closer to the game we’ve dreamed of delivering.” His excitement is infectious!

What’s Next for Hytale?

There’s still no release date—Hytale won’t launch in 2025—but these internal playtests are a huge step toward a polished game. The community is buzzing about the engine upgrades, new Kweebecs, and the promise of more updates. Let’s keep an eye out for what’s coming next!
